Suspended, Supported, Becoming
Aerial Yoga Training Reflections
Day One — The Foundation
Day One taught me something powerful:
Trust.
Just have trust.
Listen to your body cues.
Breathe.
Yoga does not judge your size.
It doesn’t care what you can’t do.
It doesn’t measure you by flexibility.
It meets you where you are.
And maybe that’s what this really is
coming home to yourself.
In a body that has carried you through more than anyone else knows.
Done and Dusted
Day 2 of training — done and dusted.
And wow… what a day of learning.
We learnt how to offer massage while someone is supported in the hammock. There’s something incredibly powerful about that the body suspended, cradled, safe. I learnt so much about the spine how it changes over time, how age, stress, trauma and posture slowly shape it. It made me reflect deeply on how much we carry, not just emotionally, but physically.
We explored the benefits of aromatherapy and how scent can regulate the nervous system. How something as simple as breath and smell can bring someone back into their body.
For the first time, I experienced crystal bowls used for sound therapy. The vibration moved through me not just heard but felt. It softened something in me. It reminded me that healing doesn’t always have to be forceful. Sometimes it’s frequency.
We practised guided meditation in the hammocks, allowing people to feel held while they let go. There is something symbolic about that healing while suspended between earth and air.
And of course, more poses. More transitions. More learning how to trust the fabric.
I can now confidently get in and out of the hammock which honestly felt like a victory in itself. Many of the poses too. Progress. Not perfect but progress.
Why I Chose This Path
People have asked why this style of training.
Because it feels like water.
The hammock takes pressure off the joints. It supports instead of strains. It creates space in the spine. It makes movement accessible for people with limited mobility, for women in bigger bodies, for those who feel traditional yoga spaces weren’t built for them.
And yes, they can hold the weight of a baby elephant.
That matters.
Because support matters.
Especially for women who have spent a lifetime holding everyone else.
The Stretch Beyond Comfort
Now I’m onto Day 4.
Ole body is tired.
Muscles sore.
Mind mentally drained.
Learning. Absorbing. Moving. Facing the little voice in my head. It all takes energy.
Before class today, I paused.
I grounded myself. I listened to the sea moody, loud, restless. The weather rough. Waves crashing hard against the shore.
It felt symbolic.
Growth isn’t always calm.
Healing isn’t always graceful.
Sometimes it’s loud.
Sometimes it’s heavy.
But I’m still here.
Still showing up.
Still choosing expansion.
Still choosing to trust.
Suspended. Supported. Becoming.
Becoming her.
