From Wounds to Roots

Abuse leaves wounds that often feel endless. They cut so deep that for a long time, you might believe they’ll never heal. The pain becomes part of your daily landscape like soil that has been trampled, broken, and stripped bare. I once thought nothing could grow there again.

But healing has a way of surprising us. It whispers truths we never expected to hear: even broken soil can grow life again.

What I’ve discovered is that resilience doesn’t bloom in the untouched places of life. It grows in the very spots that have been bruised and battered. The cracks where I once felt weak have become the openings where strength took root. From the ground I thought was ruined, something wild and unstoppable has begun to grow.

Resilience isn’t neat, polished, or predictable. It doesn’t look like the glossy pictures of “perfect healing.” It is messy, stubborn, and alive. It spreads quietly beneath the surface until one day you notice you’re standing stronger than you thought possible. It holds you steady in storms and still reaches upward, toward light and hope.

I may never be the person I was before abuse, but I no longer want to be. That version of me didn’t yet know the depth of courage it takes to survive, the tenderness it takes to rebuild, or the fierce roots that grow out of pain.

My wounds may always be part of my story, but they no longer define me. Instead, they have become the very roots of my growth.

Reflection for You

💜What “broken soil” in your own life might actually hold the potential for new growth?

💜Where do you notice resilience quietly taking root, even if it feels small right now?

💜How can you honor both your roots (where you’ve been) and your rising (where you’re going)?
