The Barely Functioning Days
Those barely functioning kind of days. The ones where you wake up and everything just feels heavy your body, your thoughts, your emotions. You move through the day slowly, almost on autopilot, trying to do the basics while reminding yourself that it’s okay to not be okay.
I’ve learnt over time that on these days, it’s not about pushing harder or pretending to have it all together. It’s about focusing on the little things the small, grounding actions that remind you you’re still showing up, still taking care of yourself, still trying.
For me, it always starts with the basics:
🌿 I make my bed. It’s a small win, a simple act that brings order when everything else feels messy.
🌿 I shower, get dressed, and put on makeup. Because when you look good, you start to feel a little better too. It’s a form of self-respect, a way of saying, I still matter.
🌿 I eat something healthy. Nourishment is more than food it’s energy, strength, and self-care.
🌿 I find something positive. Even on the hardest days, there’s always one thing that makes me smile a song, a memory, a message, or a moment of peace.
🌿 I find gratitude. It’s not always easy, but it shifts my focus. Gratitude helps me see that even in the struggle, there’s still light.
These small rituals might not change the day completely, but they remind me that I’m still moving forward even if it’s just one gentle step at a time.
And tonight, I’ve got my wee motivator my grandson staying over. His laughter, his hugs, and his energy bring a warmth that words can’t describe. He reminds me of why I keep going, why I keep healing, and why I still believe in better days.
Sometimes, it’s not about doing everything. It’s about doing something.
Because even on the barely functioning days, you’re still showing up and that’s enough.
