Music was my First Therapist
Music was my first therapist; it provided a space where I could immerse myself in the lyrics and connect with my emotions. It stirred feelings within me and offered a release, allowing me to escape into another world. Music has been a constant companion, dating back to the days when I would sing into an old hairbrush to Roxette, which was the first tape I ever owned lol. I vividly remember discovering Metallica's "One" and Pantera's "Cemetery Gates," realizing that I preferred this genre. I even went through a goth phase over the years, with metal and rock becoming my go-to sounds. While not everyone shares this preference, these genres resonated with me the most.
Over time, I have become more open to different styles. Recently, I've noticed that the music I’ve been drawn to carries a darker tone that feels relatable to my own story. Thanks to good old TikTok, I stumbled upon the artist SkyDxddy, and let me tell you, one particular song is incredibly powerful. I’ve included the link below—listen at your discretion.
In this song, the statistics this is based on are from America.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, domestic violence is one of the most chronically underreported crimes. Only 25% of all physical assaults, 20% of all rapes, and 50% of all stalking perpetrated against females by their partners are reported to the police. In the small number of cases that do get reported, on average, a woman will be assaulted by her partner or ex 35 times before reporting to the police, if she ever does.
Let that sink in for a moment
