TRIGGER CHECKLIST
Blog Series - The Truths No One Wants to Say Out Loud
Stop Reacting, Start Understanding
Not everything needs to be fixed immediately.
Some things need to be understood first.
Next time you’re triggered, don’t run.
Go through this:
☐ What am I actually feeling right now?
(Not just “angry” — is it rejection, fear, shame, abandonment?)
☐ What just happened that set this off?
(Be specific. A tone? A word? Being ignored?)
☐ What does this remind me of?
(Where have I felt this exact feeling before?)
☐ Am I reacting to the present… or the past?
☐ What story am I telling myself right now?
(“I’m not good enough” / “They don’t care” / “I’m being replaced”)
☐ What part of me feels unsafe?
(Inner child? Fear of rejection? Loss of control?)
☐ Am I about to react in a way I’ll regret later?
☐ What do I actually need in this moment?
(Reassurance? Space? Boundaries? Honesty?)
☐ Am I abandoning myself to keep the peace?
☐ What would it look like to respond instead of react?
🖤 Truth:
Your trigger is not here to ruin you.
It’s here to reveal what still needs your attention.
