Thriving, not Surviving

is my guiding principle. This past holiday has showed that maintaining a positive mindset, showing perseverance, and refusing to let my health challenges define me have granted me precious moments like these.

When I’m out exploring, what people often don’t see is the persistent migraine, the vertigo, and the flare-ups of functional neurological disorder (FND). These adventures can be quite challenging for me, especially when navigating steps, winding paths, and certain locations situated above sea level, which adds an extra layer of difficulty.

Here I stand on a cliff, soaking in the breathtaking view: Mount Taranaki in the background, alongside Elephant Rock and the Three Sisters, with the black sand and waves stretching out before me.The wind is bitterly cold, feeling the power of nature in every gust.

Below, the black sand beach stretches endlessly, the waves crashing below a moment. As I stand here, I am reminded of my own journey—of overcoming challenges and embracing the beauty in each moment. This place, with its raw and untamed beauty, a sense of peace, knowing that, like the elements before me, I too can weather the storms and emerge stronger.

This view is a gift—a reminder of the boundless beauty that exists in the world and within ourselves. It's an invitation to pause, reflect, and find solace in the present, knowing that every step forward is a step towards embracing the wonders of life.
